"36 Ways" Equestrian Program

"Building Leadership Skills

Through Horsemanship"

The Brian Westbrook Foundation’s “36 Ways” Equestrian Program is dedicated to empowering youth through the art of horsemanship. Designed for riders ages 8 to 18, our program offers comprehensive RIDING LESSONS, skill development, and leadership training in all aspects of horse care and farm management.

Through hands-on experience, mentorship, and structured instruction, participants will build confidence, responsibility, and teamwork—both in and out of the saddle. Our mission is to make equestrian sports accessible to all, fostering discipline, respect, and a lifelong love for horses.

Our spring program will be held at

The Westbrook Horse Farm, 12412 Van Brady Road, Upper Marlboro, MD and offer five to twenty horse riding lessons at $55.00 each beginning April 2, 2025 -

June 6, 2025. We welcome you to register for one or two lessons

a week.

Lessons will be held for one hour and offered three times a day on Wednesdays and Fridays only. Our lesson time slots for both days are 4:30 pm, 5:30 pm, and

6:30 pm (EST). This program will also include a few bonus Saturday lessons as well; more details regarding our Saturday lessons will be shared during our program's orientation.

Lisa Swan has been a member of the Maryland horse scene for over 30 years. She has a degree in Elementary Education that has served her both in the classroom and riding ring. She has managed barns, directed summer camps, trained horses, and organized and judged shows. You will find her current students competing successfully throughout the area.

Lisa has seen the positive effects horses have had on the emotional and physical wellbeing of her students. Communing with horses has been proven to reduce stress and anxiety, improve confidence, and increase empathy and social skills. Horseback riding improves balance , coordination, and physical stamina.

As a lifelong educator, Lisa is looking forward to sharing her equine experience with the students at The Westbrook Horse Farm. She is eager to get kids off their screens, into the barn, and out in nature.

The Brian Westbrook Foundation

“Our why is simple; we want to help and give back to as many youths as we can and in as many ways as we can. I wouldn't be where I am today without the help of my community, mentors, and family. My mission is to give back in the same way that so many others have given back to me."
